CLOUDFLARE IS DEAD!

Yes, i know this is maybe a understatement, but hear me out.
Recently a lot of web services including our website was down, because we all were too dependent on cloudflare , but now for my company Orlovsky Consulting GbR that’s is a thing of past.
Not only we running our own highly customized bunkerweb firewall / anti DDOS protection, but we offer solutions based on opensource and that actually works and very robust and stable.
So what did happen at Cloudflare?
As far as publicly was stated , Cloudflare switched to Rust programming language, and some configs were not tested and unresponsible just deployed into production , which caused really big upheaval and mess and as result big outage in internet.
The problem with any company, if it gets way bigger then it was before, people start to have very high overexaggerated ego. So its not only employee fault, but managers too, they didn’t managed project properly.

I love technology and challenges with it, but at some point, some tech decisions should not be taken only per hype and more reasons and thought should be put into it.
With such complex technology and legacy code advantages and disadvantages must be weighted and concerns raised, you don’t test your assumption in production you build test environments, and evaluate result on those test environments, then you take small focus group and test your assumption, but what Cloudflare did was unreasonable and unresponsible and highly unprofessional.
Now, with our own custom Cybersecurity solution my company provides as of now new service. Orlovsky Consulting GbR step in and help you with challenge of moving away from cloudflare to own selfhosted solution.
This means:
A. You can host your own solution at your company side.
B. You can deploy it into any cloud, there no vendor lock in.

Finally, I will write how much work it was for us, me and some other employees of my company we have not so many webapps, but still those websites are important, so we spent almost a week configuring and installing the needed custom Bunkerweb solution.
Major keynotes about Bunkerweb, you should know nginx, modsec and other opensource stuff.
Each webapp must explicitly configured to work with reverse proxy, you need to understand that you integrate with Bunkerweb platform which handles all the communication between your site and internet.

What the benefit of such big work?
1. Speed, the site/webapp will be lighting faster than if you have to use cloudflare platform.
2. Adjustment to challenges, as I mention you can extend Bunkerweb as you need.
3. Freedom in terms of usage for your webapp, there no limitations on bandwidth like it with Cloudflare.
4. No dependency on such vendors like cloudflare, there 0 dependencies.
5. It works everywhere onsite, cloud, hybrid, its architecture is really robust and unique.
6. The frontend of Bunkerweb is user-friendly , but deep knowledge of nginx and modsec is required.
7. You can scale with ease, trough docker infrastructure technology.

So Cloudflare dead?

Not really, yet they lost my trust and confidence in their professionalism, they obviously luck responsibility and resilience to adjust to new market changes, once trust broken it can’t be regained again.
Commercial Cloudflare clients will look at other solutions and they will use platform like Bunkerweb, because this makes more sense and with companies like mine it is possible to continue business without returning back to Cloudflare and have full 100% cybersecurity protection.
Alone this will put big pressure on Cloudflare company, eventually they will loose big market share and wont able to compete with us small flexible service providers.
